lexsyg smart – research capable TL OSL reader

lexsyg smart is a low cost luminescence reader for standard routine measurements of luminescence using TL and OSL (thermal and optical stimulation). Based on the success and experience of our fully automated lexsyg research TL OSL reader system, the lexsyg smart offers all routine functions necessary for fast and standard measurements.

This system can be used for standard TL and OSL measurements in Geo-/Archaeochronometry, mineralogical research, solid state and retrospective dosimetry, radiation control and material sciences.

Measurement Chamber

The lexsyg research system has a capacity for up to 80 cups/discs (10 mm) and is designed for vacuum/inert gas use. Samples are stored independently from the measurement section and hence changing of sample is possible at any time, while radiation cross-talk (ionizing radiation, stimulation light) is minimized. The measurement chamber has 1-2 positions for irradiation sources (Alpha, Beta, X-ray) and 2-4 for luminescence measurements. Two positions are also available for an automatic change of up to 4 luminescence light detection units (PMTs; CCDs, …).

Irradiation Unit

The Beta (Sr-90) irradiation unit was special designed to provide a homogeneous irradiation field and to allow RL (in particular radiofluorescence RF) measurements during Beta irradiation (dose rate about 0.1 Gy s-1). A deviation in radiation across the sample area (10 mm diameter) of < ±3 (about ±2% at 8mm) can be guaranteed. An Alpha-irradiator is also available (Am-241). X-ray units can be fitted on request.

OSL Stimulation Unit

There are possibilities of OSL excitation by up to 3 light-fiber coupled lasers. IRSL (850 nm), Blue (458 nm), Violet (405 nm) stimulations based on laser diodes, while Green (525 nm) stimulation is obtained by LEDs. Other wavelengths are available upon request. Stimulation can be obtained independently/simultaneously in CW or modulated mode (pulsed, linear/non-linear modulated), with the possibility of one port modified for external light source coupling (e.g. a tunable for luminescence excitation spectrometry).

Luminescence Detection Unit

The instrument can be equipped with up to 4 luminescence detection units at fixed measurement positions and/or hold an automatically detector changer which can switch up to 4 detection units between two general measurement positions (i.e. TL/OSL and RF). The detection units have optical shutters and can be extended by automatic filter-wheels to set appropriate luminescence detection windows. Filters as well as detectors can be changed within a measurement sequence.
